wow...u guys have made my decision easier...better to go via ny directly to mumbai
I have flown on Continental from Newark to Mumbai non-stop. The best international flight experience so far! I bought the ticket online at their website. Guess what! It was almost 60% the price of lowest price travel agents were quoting on other airlines!
The flight is a bit long lasting just under 15 hours. But, it leaves at around 8 PM. After an in-flight dinner, it is bedtime. People who have taken overnight bus journeys in India, this is not much different. If you can manage to sleep in that half sitting position (I cannot!) then it is that much better. You wake up, eat breakfast, spend 3-4 hours enjoying their inflight individual entertaintment unit, and soon it is time to land in Mumbai.
There is no hassle with food either. Indian veg is part of their standard offering. So, no hassle of ordering AVML and hoping that they will remember to serve it to you.
The down side:
1) The length - at 15 hours (16.5 hours during return), it can get too much.
2) The service is as bad as any US domestic flight.
3) If you do not live in Mumbai or Delhi, your journey would not end with this flight.
I see that more airlines are moving towards this long haul model with flights lasting over 12 hours. I think it is great, because we avoid all transit hassles, such as security, transit visa, etc., etc.
Soon, AI, Jet and Kingfisher are going to enter into this market. Hopefully more cities in India will connected to more cities in US this way.

Why is everybody so happy? He has just briefly and curtly informed in the message that flowers will be forwarded. They won't be sitting on my desk and embarrasing me. There is no acknowledgement of the issue or any empathy or compassion with the sufferers. Now even the press coverage will make USCIS director look good. I don't see what's the positive development here.
They probably tried to pass the irritant to someone else. If USCIS continues receiving flowers, and therefore passing them on, one day even the soldiers will say "No thanks!". Then they will pass them on to someone else. But for how long?
I think this campaign will NOT lose its effect-- as long as we are persistent. Ideally, we should continue sending flowers at least so long as it does not become a MUCH talked about issue in the print and radio and TV media. My humble opinion.

My priority date is March 26th 2006 and current for month of September.
I created a SR on 09/14 and got the following response today.
"
Service records indicate that your application is pending and waiting assignment to an officer. You will be notified when a decision has been made or if additional information is needed. If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 60 days from the date of this letter, please contact customer service to complete another service request
"
I would appreciate if someone can interpret the message.

If you are really sincere, why don't you send your name, phone number and employer name to IV and IV will put you in touch with the right people to complain?
No point trying to hide your identity and faking your own convictions.
I can send all the details .. including the evidences, can u assure me of anonymity and protection under whistle blower category ??? Dude r u kidding me ... we are talking about a complaint against a Billion Dollar firm and its resources.. do u expect me to give the details in this open forum ... Even USCIS has pre adjudicated all AOS cases , DOS will not be in good shape to predict perfect cutoff date ever. WHY ?? Every year in Sep DOS move dates forward in order to prevent visa waste. Lets say because of these pre adjudicated DOS knows that they are 10k pending app before Sep 2004 and supply is 7k. Still they will move date till 2004 Oct just to give room to USCIS. If they move date to July 2004 which has 7k app and supply is also 7k and some how USCIS has problem approving some cases because of some reason then they will waste few visas.
Till last year DOS was moving date randomly but this year they had move date with little offset. In Oct they moved date forward little bit because DOS think USCIS will not be ready with those left over case from 2004. If they will then they will chew Oct supply and 2005 Jan applicants will not get any visas. Again supply in Oct is only few hundreds visas to only lucky people from 2004 and 2005 will get green card. Called up all California Congressmen and requested their support.
Got a patient ear on the other side from all whom I called-hope they really convey the message to the Congressman/congresswoman and hope they are flooded with calls to support the bill.

Personally, I think the visa recapture bill would help things quite a bit.

Anybody knows how to start a free wiki. I can volunteer to put all this information on a wiki that can be updated by anybody. It is not too late to write the letter, it is never too late to write the letter!!
Since the letters are only requesting fixing of the interpretation of the law, and not the law itself, there really is no fixed deadlines involved. Of course, sooner it is done, the better our chances are for moving forward.

I was wondering if there are any plans for a recapture campaign ? my feeling is that we should concentrate on recapture at all times ..even if it is something in preparation i.e. do some homework now itself in anticipation ..the other point is keep talking about IV and get new members ..in the last 2 days ..I came across 2 people in various stages of immigration and they did not know about IV ..and they have joined now. I guess this is the most effective way to increase membership

Yes, I do agree that we should have some sense of personal responsibility and that is why the middle way is to rent out the house (probably at a bit lower price than your monthly mortgage) and pay the difference from your pocket - if you have to absolutely move out from the house. But, can somebody answer my question above..........why is the same house (not even a brick changed) being appraised at around 100k lower than it was done 2 years back, by the same bank??

Where did I say that american's gave better advice than desis. I was just trying to compare mentality of two diff community for a same situation.

When you ask for advice, you need humility. Not call others stupid, when it looks like you made the same mistake. You bought a home which you were in no safe position to afford. There are people who didn't buy because they saw what was coming. Can these guys call you stupid because you didn't see what was coming? I don't know why my tax dollar should be used to bail out guys like you who are/were irresponsible, while I patiently rent out this mess caused by you guys? :mad::mad:
